I have an idea for the gardening/tilling problem - I do "lasagne gardening" - just google it and you will find all the info. Best thing about it, is no tilling! I don't think the washing thing is insane at all. I have done loads by hand early in my first marriage when we just didn't have a washing machine at all. And as for a clothesline - well I am originally from New Zealand (live in NH now) and the people with dryers were looked at funny! The clothesline business is huge there! I actually don't think I'd ever used a dryer until I came to the US. I would love to do a clothesline in my backyard but my hubby is horrified. He thinks we would be looked at as the white trash of the neighborhood lol! I say hmmm maybe, but our power bill would go down, and there's nothing like the smell and feel of line-dried clothes!
