Created to Praise

Just me being me the way He made me

I read last week that the sun sings.  It’s true!  Scientists have recently discovered that certain frequencies are emitted from the sun’s atmosphere.  When it sends off flares and such, the amount of the frequencies is even higher.  How cool is that?!?!  The sun is singing!

We all know that the Bible says that “even the rocks cry out” to praise their Creator.  If the rocks are doing it, then surely the sun is too.  So why can’t we hear it?  The scientific answer is that the frequencies are too low for the human ear to hear.  The spiritual answer is……why should we?  The sun isn’t singing to US.  That music isn’t intended for US.  The sun is singing to it’s Creator.  It’s not about us.  It’s about HIM.

So here’s what really gets me excited.  Everything (including us) was created by Him for His glory.  Think about that for a minute.  That means that we are created to praise.  That means that even the sun was created to praise.  So the sun is simply doing what it was created to do.  Period.  It’s fulfilling it’s purpose.  Are we?

I think this is where a lot of people get hung up.  Most people think that praise is singing.  It’s far more than that.  We bring glory (fame) to God by proclaiming Who He is and what He’s done.  Every time we share His love with someone, He is glorified.  Every time we share our story of how He has saved us, He is glorified.  But wait!  There’s more!

Each of us has been given certain gifts and talents….also known as “strong points.”  For instance, I may not be able to change the world with a new scientific discovery, but I can sing.  So every time I sing, I bring glory to God.  You may not be able to sing, but you may have strong organizational skills.  Every time you help plan and organize an outreach event, you bring glory to God.  Got people skills?  Every time you lovingly greet a person at the church door, you’re bringing glory to God.  The list goes on and on.  But wait!  There’s more!

I have terrible organizational skills.  However, these skills are something a worship leader desperately needs.  So I’m working feverishly to improve my skills in that area.  I learning new tactics and utilizing tools to help me in this area.  Guess what?  This also brings glory to God.  Every time we work to improve our skills in our ministry, it honors Him.  So even our weak areas can be used for His glory.  Wow!

So as you go about your day today, doing what you do, think about the sun and how it fulfills it’s purpose.  Let the sun remind you of your purpose then purposfully set about to fulfill it.  Let’s let everything we do today bring Him glory.
